The piercings around the mouth- the lip, labret(lower lip), and the monroe(up into the laugh lines) all have very similar healing qualities. Each use variations on similar jewelry- the flat back stud.

Although the lip and labret can use a captive bead ring if desired. The healing time is approximately 4 to 6 weeks with a downsizing after 2 to 4 weeks. The jewelry used in the initial piercing is sized up to compensate for the swelling.

Oral contact with other people is discouraged during the healing, as with any piercing it should be considered an open wound.
